Discover the Storyteller Within
A 2 Hour Workshop with Jan Blake
DATE: MARCH 14, 2025
LOCATION: Online
TIME: 12pm-2pm PST
Are you ready to find your voice?
Many people believe that to be a storyteller, you need a vast repertoire of ancient myths or a mastery of complex performance techniques. World-renowned storyteller Jan Blake believes something different.
She believes that storytelling begins and ends with one thing: Your relationship with the story.
In this immersive two-hour "taster" session, Jan moves away from "skills and techniques" to focus on the heart of the craft: Connection. This workshop is designed specifically for emerging storytellers who want to experience the power of narrative in a supportive, high-energy environment.
What We Will Explore
This isn't a lecture—it’s an active, participatory experience. During our two hours together, we will dive into:
-
The Anatomy of a Compelling Narrative: Jan will share a story and lead a live inquiry. We will strip back the layers to discover: What makes a story good? And what makes a telling compelling?
-
"X Marks the Spot": You will participate in a unique exercise to bridge the gap between memory and myth. By mapping a joyful moment from your own life, you’ll learn how to transform personal experience into a narrative that resonates with others.
-
From Owner to Custodian: Experience the shift from telling "your" story to becoming the custodian of another’s. You will practice the art of deep listening and third-person narration, learning how to carry a story that isn't yours with integrity and life.
-
The Folk Tale Bridge: We will conclude by taking the leap from personal narrative into the world of folk tales, practicing how to "finish" a traditional story using your own creative intuition.
Who Is This For?
This workshop is intended for emerging storytellers and curious beginners. Note: This is a sanctuary for those starting their journey. To maintain an uninhibited and encouraging space, this session is not open to established professional peers.Ā
